Edward Woodward, The Equalizer, passes at 79

Janet Glass, his agent, said Woodward had been ill for some time and died at home surrounded by friends and family.

Woodward won a Golden Globe for this role as Robert McCall in The Equalizer and worldwide acclaim for his role as a London detective investigating druidic ritual and murder in The Wicker Man (the original) and Breaker Morant .

Woodward's last screen appearance was in Hot Fuzz with Simon Pegg.
